Surfing is an absolutely wonderful water sport, one of the most enjoyable anyone could ever do. No matter what shape you are in, no matter how old you are, or no matter how inexperienced you may be, you can hop on a board and ride the waves to your heart's content. However, it's also important to note that if you're in better physical condition and you have a good level of surfing fitness, you're going to have a much more enjoyable time surfing.

If you're having trouble catching your breath, it's probably not going to be as much fun for you to surf. Does that mean that if you're not in top physical condition, you can't surf? Of course not. However, it's helpful if you know how to participate in exercising for surfers, which will boost your surfing fitness. This means that you can enjoy both the exercise and the activity far more than you could if your physical condition was "out of shape" and didn't let you.

A surfing fitness program is going to let you develop those areas that are going to improve your surfing performance overall. This type of will help you develop core and functional muscle strength, as well as increase your cardiovascular conditioning. It's also going to be specially designed specifically for surfing fitness, which means that it will have exercises included in it specific to developing surfing performance.

Now, all forms of exercise can help you improve your surfing. However, there are certain types of exercises and programs that are better for surfing fitness than others. Just as one example, a bodybuilding workout would help you get started, but it's not going to compare to a specific surfing-designed program. By contrast, if you engage in a program that's specifically designed for surfing, you'll get some truly amazing results indeed. Those results will help you perform much better when you surf.

What are some of the areas you should investigate and then work on improving? There are several of them, but perhaps the most important are overall cardiovascular conditioning, muscular endurance, and core strength. Let's take a look at each of them.

Cardiovascular conditioning - This is the conditioning of your cardiovascular system such that your heart, lungs, and cardiovascular system in general support your efforts so that you don't become out of breath and so that you maintain your endurance. Good cardiovascular conditioning will help you surf longer.

Muscular endurance -- Enhancing overall muscular endurance is going to help keep you energized during your surfing performance so that you don't tire easily. For example, conditioning and enhancing your quadriceps' strength is going to allow you to stand on your surfboard for a long period of time without tiring out.

Core strength -- Your "core" refers to the center of your body and the muscles therein, such as your abdominal muscles, your shoulder region, your thighs and your lower back.

Now, if this seems like you're going to have to work out for hours a day to get to this point, don't worry. You won't. (Besides, if you worked out all day, you wouldn't have time to surf.) In fact, you only have to work out for about 20 minutes a day, three to four days a week, to get into the best shape you need to be to surf. And remember, too, that when you surf, you're also engaging in exercise. So whatever muscles you develop during your workout will be developed even further when you surf. When you do this commie you get into a so-called fitness "loop" that will benefit you far beyond what just surfing can do for you and will improve your health, wellness and fitness overall. In turn, your overall quality of life, too, will improve.

The more you can improve your physical conditioning for surfing, the more fun you'll have when you actually surf. When you have the endurance and stamina to surf for hours, you'll discover that your ventures will produce more for you. And of course, the time you spend on the water will be more enjoyable, too.
